Rajashekhar Aiyya (50), a native of Ranebennur, Haveri district, hanged himself from the hook of the ceiling fan. The incident came to light on Monday.
Aiyya was a constable with the City Armed Reserve police. Police suspect that domestic problems might have driven him to take the extreme step though the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
It is unclear if Aiyya faced any harassment at work. Savadi, who was in Belgaum when Deccan Herald contacted him, refused to comment.
