Swiss firm forms JV with SA India

Last Updated 16 February 2011, 11:23 IST

The JV will enable Satarem AG and SA India, the erstwhile promoters of the Crocodile brand in the country, to create and develop the market and expand into Bangladesh and Maldives markets, Satarem Chairman Jerome Friler told reporters here.

Sataram, which has developed a system known as WINDSAT to produce energy from wind to generate cheaper power, was trying to promote its product to real estate developers in the country, Friler said.

The energy produced from WINDSAT is cheaper by at least 30 per cent compared to the cost involved in traditional windmill and generators that use diesel, he said. The WINDSAT system, which is different from the traditional three-blade wind turbine, could be installed atop high rise buildings, he said. The product offered lower noise, increased power production and flexibility and can be connected to the existing power grids, he added.

Satarem has installed WINDSAT system in Siberia and plans development of battery-charging stations for electric cars using the wind energy manufacturing equipment, he said.

"We are currently analysing the wind data of India as well as the suitable areas for installing WINDSAT", Friler said adding business malls, small industrial centres and high rise buildings are most suited for installing the product.

He said the firm also offers technology to convert solid waste into power and has offered details to various state governments.
