The flowers that bloom fully in the evening are maroon or reddish purple in colour and they grow up to 10 cms. The flowers are long fleshy with crisped margin pods, flat, tapering with both ends and 90X9 cm in size.

Bark of this tree is bitter while fruit is expectorant and improves appetite. The root is used in preparation of ‘Dashamoolarishta,’ an Ayurvedic tonic.

In Kannada, this tree is known as ‘Aanemungu’ and ‘Thigade mara’ locally. The bark is used in treating Rheumatism.

The fruit is used in the treatment of leucoderma. Decoction of the leaves is used in treating stomach ache.

Aanemungu tree is known as ‘Shyoanaka, thuntuka’ in Sanskrit and called as ‘Palakapayani’ in Malayalam. Scientifically this tree is Oroxylum indicum and belongs to Bignoniaceae family.
