The film is a quirky romantic comedy that traces the journey of a mismatched arranged marriage between Manu, a doctor from London who comes to India succumbing to parental pressure to get married to a good Indian girl from a respectable family and Tanu, the typical bad girl of a small town, who is the bane of her respectable parents because she smokes, drinks and hates arranged marriages.

Payal is probably the only female friend of Tanu. Payal is sorted and stable and will never do anything to shock or pain her family. Like when Payal meets the Sikh gabru jawaan Jassi at a friend’s wedding, the two are in love in three hours. Payal’s Bihari family is shocked at the prospect of an inter-caste, inter-religious wedding for the only daughter in the family and her four brothers are horrified at what such an alliance with robust sardars would do for their election campaign. But Payal with her typical goodness of nature, convinces her family without running away or doing any tamasha. Payal is also the voice of reason and proves to be a reality check in Tanu’s life.
