It was a dull, gloomy journey back home. There were tears in my eyes, partly contributed by the eye-drops that had been put in them just then. I had been to the Eye Specialists'.
After completing all the tests the doctor declared that I needed glasses!
"Glasses!" I cried. "You're saying I need spectacles?" I asked him in dismay. No way! I would be the laughing stock when I got back to school Monday morning, I thought. But it was the final verdict.
We went to a nearby Optician. I tried on several pairs of glasses and looked into a mirror that seemed to reflect a strange, unfamiliar me… Finally, I decided on a hazel blue frame which matched my eyes. Within a few days, my glasses were ready.
The Dreaded Monday arrived. I had to wear glasses! Gulp! I'd have to wear them to school!
I went over to my dressing table and brought out the case in which my spectacles were.
At first, I hesitated… But in the end I found myself picking them up and slipping them on.
The world had changed.
It was a lovely, beautiful, extraordinary world! Everything I saw was clear as crystal. The trees weren't specks of green - they were real, laden with leaves and fruits! The wordings on the boards and posters were bold and bright.
A smile spread across my face. My glasses made the world a much more exquisite place for me. I appreciated everything around!
I went into class feeling confident. I won't care about what everyone will say, I thought decisively. Then one of my class-mates came up to me and said, "You look lovely with those glasses! I wish I had a pair like yours!" I was on cloud nine!
