Delhi based designer Arka Mrigank talks about his latest party collection which is inspired from notebooks and is dedicated to youth. “This collection is for the people between 21 and 30 years,” he says. The garments that come under party wear are simple knee-length dresses, short knickers with overcoats and three-fourths. “The cuts and silhouettes of the dresses are very elegant and are kept simple. There are no engineered patterns on them,” says Arka.

The colours make the clothes special. Arka says that the collection takes its colours from the notebooks that children carry. “The colours used are taken from the three colours in the English notebook,” he says. You will find colours like red, turquoise and a host of other pastel shades in the collection. “Pastel green, coral shades and lime yellow are some of the other colours in the collection,” he adds. “These are taken from the post-it which are used on notebooks. There are also a lot of digital prints in English and Hindi which can be seen on the clothes,” says Arka. These add to the youth aspect of the clothes.

As far as the material is concerned Arka informs that he uses a combination of paper silk, satin and georgette. “The paper silk gives the dress a crisp and starched look and is inspired by the paper in notebooks,” he says. “Since it is a party wear, one can also use satin as it gives a glossy touch to the clothes,” he says.

Arka informs that clothes are meant for the women with a certain body structure. “They are for the young college girls with a lean to medium built,” he says. Accessorising your clothes is an integral part of dressing up, especially for a party. “For the dresses, you don’t need too many accessories,” says Arka. “You can wear light coloured fluorescent bangles with the dresses along with some earrings,” he says.

If you are the adventurous type you can also go for fluorescent socks along with the shoes. “But avoid heavy neckpieces,” advises Arka. And for the shorts and jackets look, one can wear some long, black bangles.

Arka says that the perfect footwear for the clothes are black shoes. “Like the ones students wear to school,” he says. “You can also go for black heels as they perfectly complement the clothes,” he adds.

‘Keep it simple’

Poorti Mishra, a bank employee, says that she often parties out.

“I usually go for knee length dresses and also for shorts with long tops for a party,” she shares. Poorti says that she prefers clothes in bright colours and is a big fan of colours as she likes to experiment with a variety of shades. “I have dresses in yellow, green and pink,” she says. Poorti prefers to wear them with minimal accessories. “A bracelet or a few bangles look good on a dress,” she says. “I also wear an anklet a few times when I wear shorts,” she adds.

As far as the footwear is concerned, simple colours are the way to go. “I usually go for flats in black as I find them comfortable,” she says.
