The members staged a dharna in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Mulbagal on Thursday demanding the completion of the construction of the houses at the earliest.Earlier the protesters had taken out a procession in the town.

Welcoming the decision taken by the Karnataka Slum Eradication Board which has undertaken the construction of houses for the people residing at Dr B R Ambedkar Nagar, the members said that they were more than 200 families who belonged to Madiga community. The area has been declared as a slum, they added.

The protesters said that there is no truth in the complaints given by few people who alleged that houses were being constructed outside the declared area.

Huts  demolished

The people who had been living in the area since 50 odd years have made way for the construction of the houses by agreeing to demolish their huts, said protesters.

Strict action should be taken against the people who are making these people scapegoat for their vested interest, they added.

The protesters urged tahsildar to pressurise the officials of the Karnataka Slum Eradication Board to fasten the construction of the houses.

The President of the Kolar district unit Madiga Dandora Samiti Sahukar Shankrappa, Working President M Venkatesh, General Secretary K S Venkatswamy, taluk unit President Gummakallu Srinivas, TMC member Narayanaswamy, taluk Hamali Sangha President Anjenayulu, leaders Hoovalli Krishnappa, Shivanna, Ramesh and others were present on the occasion.
