Drop in EU-India trade flows: EuAsiaNews report

The Eurostat, statistical bureau of the EU, said the trade flow of the 27-member European block with all its major partners, including India, fell in the first four months of this year.

The largest decreases, however, were recorded for EU exports to Russia (-38 percent in January-April 2009 compared with the same period in 2008), Turkey (-36 percent), South Korea (-24 percent), and for imports from Russia (-42 percent), Japan and Turkey (both -28 percent), Brazil (-27 percent).

The EU trade surplus fell with the US (+8.9 billion euros in January-April 2009 compared with +22.4 billion euros in the same period in 2008) and Switzerland (+3.8 billion compared with +6.5 billion last year).

The EU trade deficit decreased with China (-46.9 billion compared with -49.1 billion), Russia (-12.8 billion compared with -24.6 billion), and Japan (-7.5 billion compared with -12.1 billion) for the same period.
