He said that women make their presence felt in all fields in the society. The role of women in making various scheme benefits available to deserved beneficiaries is praiseworthy, he added.

Women should give more emphasis to solve the problems of the people in rural areas. The decentralisation has given more opportunity for women to participate in the local administration, he said.

Chikmagalur Diacese Bishop Fr Thomasappa Anthony Swamy said that the International Women’s Day is being celebrated in 100 nations across the world. “The Indian culture is most precious. Human beings should offer prayers to parents more,” he advised.

All women should become literate and provide education to their children, the Bishop said adding that several families are leading respectable life in the society by availing loans from their organisation.

The Medical Officer of the Holy Cross Hospital Dr Bhagyalakshmamma said women can come to the mainstreams of the society through unity.
