Now, it's the turn of Hubli

Girl student complains teacher sought favours for more marks
Last Updated 09 March 2011, 17:33 IST

The college in question is Jnan Sanskar Bharati (JSB) and the suspect is J Guruprasad, faculty and secretary of the college management board.

The victim, a BCA student in the sixth semester, along with other students, has approached the police seeking justice and punishment for the culprit for harassing them mentally and physically.

Call to accompany

One of the main allegations against Guruprasad is that he has been asking girl students to accompany him to parties if they want more marks.

This has shocked parents and the student community in the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad.

ABVP protests

Condemning the incident strongly, ABVP activists staged a protest in front of the college on Tuesday and urged the government to initiate stern action against Guruprasad and the college.

“Guruprasad has been misbehaving with us. He asked me to organise a get-together for just the two of us.

“But I did not listen to him. He gave me less marks in the previous exam,” the victim said, requesting Karnatak University, Dharwad, to which JSB is affiliated, to transfer them to another college.

Worse complaints

ABVP activists said this incident was just a tip of the iceberg. “There are complaints against some lecturers working in different colleges in the twin cities. The managements must treat such cases seriously and take stern action so that immoral and unscrupulous lecturers mend their ways,” they said. There was a similar case of sexual abuse at a popular business school in Hubli, three years ago.

The director of the business school, known for his Don Juan character, used to send vulgar SMSes to girl students. He was shunted out of the college when he harassed the daughter of a reputed businessman in the city.
