Magadi: Fire razes forest

The fire has left hundreds of trees smouldering in the last two days and a huge pall of smoke covers the area. The fire fighters have camped near the forest and have been putting out small, recurring fires. The residents of Thippasandra and surrounding villages have been living in dread of fires reviving and spreading with the onset of summer. Their fears are not groundless as fire has also burnt down a mango grove in Anneshastri Palya on the edge of the forest.

Last week, a marauding fire reduced to ashes the greenery in the Maradi Gudda forest near Biskoor. Fire forces from Bangalore doused the fire.
