You just can’t miss the sight of attractive, trendy bags along the pavements.
They are available in all shapes and sizes and what grabs your attention are the loud colours and even louder designs they come in. They come in printed leather, cotton, chetai leather and foam and one is surely spoilt for choices.

The prices are also dirt cheap beginning from Rs 100 right up to Rs 500. These bags are most popular with the students and young office goers who change bags in keeping with their outfit.

Metrolife spoke to a cross-section of women in the City to find out what they like the most about these bags.

Yashaswini R, an engineering student says, “These bags are very trendy and blend with salwar, jeans and kurti. They make for a great combination. There are some funky designs which are not available in big stores.” Poojitha Surendra, an MBA student with Dayananda Sagar College who regularly buys bags off the pavements says, “They are very comfortable and not cumbersome like other bags. I can carry just about anything in them yet they don’t get heavy.” Another advantage with these bags are that they’re available at throwaway prices. “Instead of spending a lot of money on branded stuff we could buy something that is affordable and worth paying. We cannot bargain in high end stores. Pavement bags are a cheap and best option,” says Rashmi Prabhakar, another student.

Vijayalakshmi, who works for a BPO says, “What entices me the most about these bags are the variety. They come in different colours and designs which is limited in the branded bags. They can be carried while travelling or to office as they give a corporate look.” Anagha Mahesh, a lecturer who has joined the league of those who buy these bags, opines, “They are a perfect match for any attire, and even if they are used on a daily basis we needn't worry much. The single, double and triple compartments for keeping smaller stuff are an added advantage. There is also space for keeping the make-up kit and other emergency items which can be kept safely.”
Divya, an HR professional says, “The best part about these bags is that they go well with ethnic and formal clothes. They can be carried around everywhere and they’re also light and capacious. The only drawback is their short durability but that can be compromised when there is so much of variety.”  Bhaskar, a pavement bag vendor in Gandhi Bazaar, who has been selling bags for the last seven years says, “These bags are imported from Mumbai and are sold at a wholesale price here. The bags are in sync with the latest trends and fashion.”

These bags not only spacious but can be carried without sparing a thought about their maintenance. Since they come cheap, people have the option of changing these bags whenever they want to.
