Even before the dust over her filmy marriage against the wishes of her family has settled down, Srija on Tuesday filed a dowry harassment complaint  against her husband G Sirish Bharadwaja at  the Central Crime police station.

In her complaint, Srija accused her husband of torturing her physically and mentally for the last few months for dowry even after she gave away several crores and gold ornaments to fund his abortive business enterprises.

“Of late, there has been no end to his greed and it has become a daily practice for him to get drunk and torture me. A week ago, he asked me to get Rs 50 lakh and after that I returned to my parents’ home and did not go back. My mother-in-law was a part of all this,” she alleged.

Acting on her complaint, the  police booked a case against Sirish under Section 498-A (subjecting a married woman to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code and also brought him for questioning. The police quizzed the members of his family also, police sources said. Commissioner of Police A K Khan said: “We have registered a case against the accused under the Dowry Harassment and Dowry Prohibition Act.”

Srija had hit the headlines in 2007 when the 19-year-old ran away from her home with her classmate Sirish Bhardwaja, who is currently a member of the Central Board of Film Certification Regional Office.
