'Be aware of consumer rights'

Speaking at the World Consumer Day celebration organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Food and Civil Supplies Department and Information Department at Old Fort hall on Tuesday, he said “the consumers should exercise their rights for a healthy society and market system. If the consumers are aware of their rights, then they will not get cheated. The consumers get cheated without their knowledge many a time, he added.

Both the Central and State governments have chalked out several plans to prevent the exploitation of the consumers by the merchants.

Zilla Panchayat CEO N Krishnappa said one need to be aware that he is not cheated with the false weights and mesaurements. Consumers should know their rights and responsibilities.

District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum President K M Thammaiah said “there are several laws to protect the interest of the consumers. The cosnumers should make use of the laws.”

When the consumers face any injsutice, then they will be given justice at the consumer court.”

District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum member A S Hemalatha said there is a need to organise elocution and quiz competition on consumer rights to school and college students.

The department of Weights and Measures showed a mock exercise on how the people get cheated with the use of false weights and measures. Additional Deputy Commissioner K M Chandre Gowda, and others were present.
