District-level Kannada meet on March 19, 20

Preparations are in full swing for district-level Kannada Sahitya Sammelana to be held here from March 19. The events will be held not only at Sahitya Parishat Bhavan but also at the adjacent Kalabhavan.

Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, District President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat said the conference chairman, H B Ramesh will be welcomed in a traditional procession. More than 25 cultural troupes will accompany the procession.

The inaugural function will be held at the dais to be put up outside the parishat and it will be inaugurated by Kannada Development Authority Chairman ‘Mukyamantri’ Chandru at 11 am. Kannada Sahitya Parishat State President Nallur Prasad will release a souvenir brought out on this occasion. More than 50 stalls will be put up to sell books and former minister H D Revanna will open it.

The cultural programmes will be inaugurated by MLA H S Prakash and Sarojini Bharadwaj will open the exhibition of items manufactured by Stree-shakthi groups.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Naveenraj Singh will hoist the national tri-colour at 9 am and Superintendent of Police K V Sharatchandra will unveil the Kannada flag.

The procession will start at 9:30 am which will be inaugurated by City Municipal Council President C R Shankar. The Central office of KSP has promised to release ` 2.75 lakh and the rest will be collected from philanthropists.

Statue

The statue of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu will be installed in the premises of KSP within a year.

It will of black stone and cost around `  3.3 lakh.  A private company has come forward to donate money towards the statue, said Udayaravi.
