The examinations will commence with Chemistry for science stream students and Business Studies for commerce stream. The PU department has increased the number of exam centres from 907 last year to 933 this year.
As many as 3.39 lakh boys and 2.85 lakh girls will appear for the exams. All examinations, barring four, will be held between 9 am and 12:15 pm. Examinations for Carnatic music, Hindustani music, psychology, and Urdu will be conducted between 2 pm and 5:15 pm. The examinations will conclude on March 30, with History for Arts stream students, and Computer science for science stream students.
The highest number of students (3.03 lakh) are appearing for examinations in the Arts stream followed by Commerce (1.63 lakh) and Science (1.56 lakh).
This year will see 4.50 lakh students taking the exam for the first time, along with 1.33 lakh repeaters and 40,000 private candidates.
There has been a dip in the number of repeater and private candidates this year, which is reflected in the overall decrease in the number of candidates.
