Women's groups demand fair probe into sexual harassment case

The activists of various women’s organisations and Kannada forums staged a demonstration demanding for a fair probe into the sexual harassment charges made by research student Saritha and urged for stringent punishment to the accused, zoology professor Shivabasavaiah.

Members of various associations gathered near the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the law courts and alleged that there was a conspiracy to bury all evidences against the Professor. Research student Saritha who attempted suicide unable to bear the harassment of Shivabasavaiah is yet to come out of the shock.

A shame

The professor used his clout to get early bail in the case. Now, he was exerting influence to make the case against him weak in the court of law.

“The sexual harassment against Saritha is a shame on the civilised society and the premier education centre, University of Mysore when the world was observing International Women’s Day,” the protesters said and urged the university authorities to ensure such cases are not repeated.

Memorandum

The protesters shouted slogans against Prof Shivabasavaiah and took out in a procession to Deputy Commissioner’s  office to present a memorandum.

Advocate Manjula Manasa, social activist Nanda Halemane, Vanitha Narayan Gowda, BJP Women’s unit secretary Basammanni, Chandrakala, president of Karunada Sene women’s unit B S Geetha, Prof Shashikala of Samatha Women’s Association, ZP member Parvathi Krishnamurthy, corporators Mahadevamma, Shankar, state president of Siddaramaiah Fan’s Association Prakash, husband of Saritha Dr B R Vijay Kumar and others were present.
