Deputy Conservator of Forests D Yatishkumar told Deccan Herald that the fire was noticed around 3:30 pm near Gavimutt. Immediately the staff of Department of Forests, led by Range Forest Officer Nagaraj rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire around 4:30 pm.

They prevented the fire from spreading to other areas. So, the damage was minimum, he added.

He did not rule out the hand of miscreants behind this incident. Yatish said such incidents are common during summer season for which the department is ready to deal with any emergency situation. More than 20 staff members of the department are deployed at the Chamundi Hills to deal with such incidents.
