“Alagiri has himself admitted the fact that he combined his official visit to Chennai as Minister for Chemical & Fertilisers with a personal visit to Madurai for political activities, which amounted to violation of the model code of conduct,” it observed.

The commission, however, took a lenient view in the matter, taking into consideration Alagiri’s submissions that he was not aware of “all the nitty-gritty of the procedure” for him being an MP for the first time and that such lapses will not happen in future.

Expenditure incurred on any government facilities like airfare from Delhi to Chennai and back, road transport, board and lodging availed of by M K Alagiri during his visits to Chennai and Madurai, shall be reimbursed by him to the government, it directed.
