Hassan CMC presents surplus budget

Congress, BJP councillors walkout; 68 works approved

The budget was presented at the special meeting held here.

The CMC is expecting total revenue of `  58, 72, 90,000 from all sources and the expenditure is put at `  61, 18, 00,000.  Of  `  58,72,90,000, the CMC is expecting a grant of `  41.53 crore from both the State and Union governments, `  Nine crore from property tax, `  44 lakh from development tax, `  42 lakh from rent of CMC-owned shops and `  two crore from water supply.

The CMC has earmarked `  eight crore towards construction of drain on the both sides of main roads and `  Seven crore for improvement of roads and footpaths in the city.

In the previous budget, the CMC had earmarked `  1.25 crore for development of parks. 

This year, it has been increased by  ` One crore. Besides, `  Three crore has been set aside for development of new layouts, `  Two crore each for development of  slums and improvement of water supply,  `  2.60 crore for installation of water meters in houses and commercial buildings and `  40 lakh towards purchase of new vehicles.

67 works approved

Meanwhile, despite stiff opposition from Congress and BJP members, the CMC approved 67 works.

This had been pending for the last so many months. The opposition members boycotted the meeting without giving approval for budget as well as 67 works.   

10 lakh to catch monkeys

The CMC has earmarked ` 10 lakh to catch monkeys from the city and shift them to outskirts of the city. Following complaints from the citizens regarding the menace of monkey in many wards, the CMC has kept ` 10 lakh for this purpose. For the first time, the local body had earmarked that much of money to catch the monkeys.

Besides, the CMC has allocated ` 20 lakh to sterilise stray dogs in the city. Rupees 10 lakh has been reserved to felicitate people who have rich contributions in their respective fields and ` Five lakh to erect a welcome arch. The place for the arch is not decided.
