Jaitley keeps BSY on tenterhooks

Last Updated 21 March 2011, 19:25 IST

Speaking at an event organised by a news magazine last Friday, Jaitley, when questioned about the BJP leadership not taking action against the CM, said: “Let the matter be investigated, it is being investigated. There are no final words on Yeddyurappa. I’ve checked the facts myself…..”

Although he was not in-charge of Karnataka, BJP chief Nitin Gadkari had asked Jaitely to be the trouble-shooter in the recent crisis in Karnataka.

Yeddyurappa, who is currently camping in Delhi, is scheduled to call on Jaitley.

Jaitley, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, along with politicians from other parties, was speaking on the subject: “Is honesty impossible in Indian politics?”, at the function.
Countering Jaitley, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Mani Shankar Aiyar remarked: “…The stand of the BJP on (Gujara CM) Narendra Modi and Yeddyurappa is hypocritical.”
On the issue of people getting the government they deserve, Jaitley told the gathering: “The more serious problem is that in the world’s largest democracy, there is no transparency in electoral funding. In western countries, there are systems and it is mostly accurate.

“Back when I was a student leader, bulk of the funding was made through coupons in small amounts. That system has ended. Political funding now is an invisible colour of money. I categorically believe you can be an honest individual in politics.”
