Cruise vessel calls at M'lore port

According to a press release, the vessel that arrived from Cochin called at NMPT and later sailed to Goa in the afternoon. On Sunday, cruise vessel M V Seabourn Sojourn with 371 passengers and 352 crew called at the Port. As many as 250 passengers opted for ground tour and visited various places in and around Mangalore and sailed to Goa. Majority of the cruise passengers were from USA and UK.

There is a significant growth in cruise traffic during the current year with 14 vessels as against 4 vessels handled during the previous period.

NMPT has also made another record performance by handling 12,505 metric tonnes of urea in a day on Sunday in vessel MV Lowland Sky surpassing the earlier record of 10,544 metric tonnes handled on May 31, 2009 in vessel MV D D Vigilant.

NMPT Chairman P Tamilvanan while expressing happiness over achieving a record in handling fertilisers, attributed the reasons as increased number of warehouses, increased number of railway lines for faster turn round time of rakes, trained and skilled port and dock workers and proper planning and co-ordination with port related agencies.
