Fifty-year-old Sunil Dhara died at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital last evening after drinking poison at his home at Milut village on Tuesday, the police said.

The Block Development officer of Raina-II block, Dipanjan Mukhopadhyay, said, ''An investigation has been ordered into Dhara's death.''

Dhara's son Sarat Dhara said, ''My father had been suffering from depression ever since he failed to store potato after a bumper harvest. The potato was left rotting in the field.''

Last year, three farmers - Sheikh Yunis, Jitu Bagdi and Gosai Patra - committed suicide after a crop failure at neighbouring Ausgram village in the district.
