'Address customers grievances'

Workshop on Consumer Protection Issues in Telecom Sector held in Hassan

K Somashekar District and Sessions Judge, who inaugurated the workshop, said that consumer is king and he must know his rights and in case of grievance he should know how to get redressal of grievances. The technology is fast growing and they were in next generation arena. “We must gain knowledge and face competition”.

R C Rastogi, general manager of Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited, said all the service providers should bear in mind their social responsibility. They are public sector service providers reaching the remote areas with social obligations and they try to solve the problems of customers in a speedy manner. He requested the customer to directly approach him for settlement of grievances.

B K Manjunath, secretary MTES, Hassan in his speech, asked the service providers to provide good and standard service and redress the grievances of customers in a speedy manner. He cautioned the service providers that in case of failure the customers may opt for mobile portability.

H V Thimme Gowda, advocate and vice-chairman M Krishna Law College, who presided, batted for speedy redressal of grievance. He pointed out that the other departments like Indian Postal Services should also provide prompt service.

The Inaugural session was followed by presentation by Y G Muralidharan, director, CREAT, Bengaluru on ‘Trai and regulations relating to consumer protection’ and Rajendra Hittanagi, assistant professor, Govt Law college, Hassan spoke on ‘Consumer Protection Act and Telecom service’. Devaraj Shanbag, AGM BSNL, Jayashankar, senior corporate manager, Bharti Air Tel Ltd and Ravikumar, senior officer, Vodafone spoke as to how the grievances were redressed through their respective customer care centres. Service providers present at the session assured solving of certain problems posed by the audience.

Students from various colleges of Hassan city, members of NGO and the public participated in the work shop.

Y P Udaykumar, Principal, MKLC welcomed and coordinator, Prof K G Krishnamurthy proposed a vote of thanks.
