Bangla have Windies in a spin

Last Updated 20 July 2009, 18:57 IST

At the interval, Tamim Iqbal was batting on 12 and Imrul Kayes unbeaten on four, after the Tigers dismissed West Indies for 210 in their second innings about 35 minutes before lunch on the rain-affected fourth day at the Queen’s Park Stadium Complex.

Shakib Al Hasan finished with five wickets for 70 runs from 24.5 overs, and Enamul Haque Jr ended with three for 48 from 17 overs.

Steady overnight and morning rain had threatened to scuttle Bangladesh’s effort, after the start was delayed by two hours and 10 minutes. When play started, the Tigers needed only 25 minutes to complete the demolition of the West Indies batting with Dave Bernard Jr finishing with the top score of 69 for the hosts.

The Tigers could not prevent the home team from taking their lead past the 200-run mark though, when Bernard drove a full toss from Shakib back past the bowler for a single. Next over, Enamul watched Bernard languidly hit his second six, a lofted drive over long-off, but the left-arm spinner got his revenge two balls later, when he had him stumped moving down to repeat the stroke. Bangladesh need only to draw to clinch the series.
