Seminar on Indian Constitution from Aug 9

The two-day seminar will be held to commemorate the birth centenary of eminent advocate late K Yellianna Poojary at the SDM Law College premises in the city, informed the college Principal Dr B K Ravindra.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said late Poojary had the credit of training over 90 lawyers, including the Union Minister for Law and Justice M Veerappa Moily.

Over 800 delegates from across the country will take part in the seminar. There will be no registration fee for delegates. It is open for all, he said.

Focus of seminar

“The seminar will focus on various vistas of constitutional development since 1950.

It will discuss topics such as social dimensions of Rule of Law, Centre-State relations, judicial activism, challenges of multi-cultural society and constitutional response,” Prof Ravindra said.

Eminent personalities Upendra Bakshi, Soli Sorabjee, Justice Lahoti, Justice Markandeya Katju, K K Venugopal, Justice Nariman, Justice N Kumar, Prof S P Sathe, Justice Rajendra Babu, Justice Shivaraj Patil have been invited for the seminar, he informed.

Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal and Union Minister for Law and Justice M Veerappa Moily will take part in the valedictory programme to be held at Town Hall on August 10, he added. Senior advocate K Purushotham Poojary, the head of the seminar organising committee, said late Yellianna Poojary was a true Gandhian, who believed that Constitution was the mother of all laws.

He was of firm belief that the courts exist to do real and substantial justice “Ex-debito Justice”.
