Rs five crore for purchase of 72 water tankers

The Palike and the BWSSB on Tuesday arrived at an understanding to share the cost of supplying water in tankers.

It was decided to provide 83 tankers to new areas under the BBMP and 42 tankers to the core areas. The Palike will pay Rs five crore to the Water Board for purchase of tankers.

While the BBMP will foot the hire charges for tankers — Rs 1,650 for private tankers and Rs 250 for those owned by the BWSSB — the Board will meet the expenses to supply water. It was also decided that the BWSSB would sunk a total of 1,659 borewells and the Palike, 1,500.

In a meeting, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner Siddaiah, BWSSB Chairman P B Ramamurthy and Bescom engineers decided to ask the KPTCL to provide a switchover system at the water pumping stations for uninterrupted power supply. The City would get an additional 40 to 45 million litres of water a day this year.
