Speaking after inaugurating Kodagu district eighth Kannada Sahithya Sammelan at Moorandu, he said “it is a tragedy that we have to fight for Kannada in Karnataka. We have to respect Goddess Bhuvaneshwari first. Kannada should get top priority.”
There is a need for serious discussion on Kannada in today’s situation, he said and added that the State government will provide additional funds for the sahithya sammelan.
Bopaiah said the resolutions passed in the sahithya sammelan should be implemented at the government level. Arameri Kalancheri Mutt Seer Shanthamallikarjuna Swamiji said though there is a need to learn all the languages, we should conserve our language. By organising Kannada Sahithya Sammelan in villages, more and more literary thoughts can be developed.
Seventh Kodagu district Sahithya Sammelan president Dr M G Nagaraj also spoke.
District Kannada Sahithya Parishat President T P Ramesh said district Sahithya Sammelan has received Rs 3 lakh.
Taluk Sahithya sammelan will get Rs 25,000 grant from the government.
Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Dr R K Nallur Prasad, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, ZP president Shantheyanda Ravi Kushalappa, Kodava Sahithya Academy President Rani Machaiah, and others were present.
