Two girls from Arunachal to set off for Everest expedition

Tine Mena from Roing and Anshu Jamsenpa from Bomdila have successfully completed their pre-Everest expedition and were recently selected for Everest Expedition 2011.

The formal flagging off of the expedition would be done at Itanagar tomorrow, Sports & Youth Affairs Director D K Dinglow informed in a press conference here today.

“If weather and other conditions remain favourable, the duo is expected to reach the summit by May 20-25 next”, he added.

K R Meitei, in-charge of State Adventure Cell and Everester Karma Gyaltsen a consultant in Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association, would lead the expedition team up to their base camp in Kathmandu.

“Games and sports is an area where our state can really excel keeping  in view the sporting potential among youths” Dinglow said adding that the state can produce world class sportspersons provided the youths are properly motivated and trained.

While sharing her experience, Tine Mena expressed her excitement to scale the highest mountain in the world and the hope of bringing laurels to the state.

She said that though mountaineering was an interesting adventure sports, yet a lot of risks and money were involved thereby obstructing many despite the fact that they were capable too.

As a message to the youths, she said if anyone wants to succeed in  mountaineering or other sports they should not dream of gaining success  overnight citing success requires patience, dedication, interest and  perseverance.

Anshu Jamsenpa while sharing her experiences said that she wanted to do something which would be different from others.

“I wanted to set an example which would be beneficial for my state and its people” said enthusiastic Anshu adding “I have to go a long way to achieve the feat”.
