Picturesque Gokak Falls

The Gokak Falls is located on the
Ghataprabha River in Belgaum district,
Karnataka. The waterfall is six
kilometers away from Gokak town.

According to the Mysore State Gazetteer,
Gokak falls was discovered in 1885 by
British explorers, who described the
falls thus: “Except in width and colour
of water, the general features of the
falls, its height, shape and rapidity are
very much like those of Niagara.”

The Ghataprabha river takes a leap of
52 metres (170 ft) over the sand-stone
cliff amidst a picturesque gorge of the
rugged valley.
