Only Deccan Chargers haven’t chosen their skipper while the remaining eight franchises have announced their leaders. “The captaincy is not yet decided,” said RCB coach Ray Jennings who joined the team here on Friday.

Giving a philosophical spin to the issue, the South African said: “All I know is that a captain should be a good human being. We do have a good mix of players like Vettori and AB de Villiers. They give more than they take and that is a nice culture."

Virrat Kohli, the lone player to be retained by the Bangalore side, is also tipped to take the mantle. "Kohli will be the number one player in India, batting wise, after five years,” Jennings predicted. “He will also lead India one day. As for him captaining RCB, we will have to take a call on whether he is still young at the international level and on whether it is better to wait for a few years before we make him the captain,” he explained.

Jennings was also not happy with losing some of the local players in the auction held earlier in January here and called upon the IPL authorities to find ways enable teams to retain the home talent. “The IPL bosses should find a way so that teams don’t lose out on local talent.

Imagine you train a player for three years and then he goes and plays for another club,” he pointed out. RCB lost their influential players like R Vinay Kumar and Robin Uthappa in the auction while Manish Pandey was snapped up by Pune Warriors.
