Interactive workshops for fellowships of NTS at CIIL

It was held to identify suitable candidates from among the applicants from Hindi, Tamil and Urdu speaking regions. The suitability for the award was assessed on the basis of their performance in various tests on subject matter, aptitude and general knowledge and other academic assignments apart from the oral presentation of their research.

The main objective of NTS fellowships are: to promote advanced studies in multidisciplinary area of testing and evaluation, to create a band of specialised manpower in every discipline, and in every region of the country, to meet the shortage of trained manpower and also to evolve a system of eclectic intelligentsia by pooling together the potentionals available across the disciplines. It also facilitates the younger generation to focus on bridging the gap between the system of formal education being practical and the actual needs of the country.  

A committee was constituted to scrutinise and shortlist the applicants who could be invited for discussion in an earlier workshop and the committee has identified a total of 80 applicants in this workshop from out of 150 applicants. About 60 applicants from various universities of the country including north-east region participated in the workshop.

Prof R Paneerselvam, former professor, Karnatak University, Dharwad, Dr N Nadaraja Pillai, former controller of Examinations, CIIL, Mysore, Prof M Suseela, former professor Tamil University, Thanjavur,   Prof Masood Siraj, Professor of Urdu University of Mysore, Dr Mahajabeen Najm, HOD of Urdu Yuvaraja’s College, Mysore, Prof Thippeswamy, Dr V D Hegde, former professors of Dept of Hindi, University of Mysore, Prof P T Abhraham, former professor, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh and Dr Kedutso Kapfo, RRO, CIIL  were the expert of the scrutiny committee.

In order to promote advance studies in the interdisciplinary areas of Testing and evaluation, the NTS-I has instituted 30 Doctoral and 15 Post Doctoral Fellowships per year for the young researchers from various disciplines of study. They are expected to have studied either in Hindi, Tamil or Urdu as one of the languages upto higher secondary in case of professional courses and upto degree level in case of other courses. This scheme will be extended to all the other languages in due course.  

The workshops were coordinated by the academic staff of NTS , Dr V Ilangovan, Dr R Senkuttuvan, Dr Rizwan and Aravind Kumar Gautam and Hayath Afza assisted them.

Overall guidance was provided by Dr M Balakumar, Head, NTS-I. The proceedings of the workshop was periodically noted by N Murali Mohan, PRO, NTS-I.
