PUE suspends MCC as valuation centre

Last Updated 08 May 2009, 17:03 IST

The Department of Pre-University Education (PUE) has permanently suspended Mount Carmel College as an evaluation centre in the State.

According to a press release from the PUE department, the Mount Carmel College had forced evaluators to discontinue work on April 10 and this  violated the terms and conditions.

S G Hegde, Commissioner, PUE Department said, “About 700 evaluators from across the State had gathered at the Mount Carmel College for evaluation work. The institution, having agreed to be one of 37 evaluation centres in the State, had given in writing that it would abide by the terms and conditions of the Pre-University board. However on April 10, citing festival reasons the authorities of the institutions stopped the evaluation work and asked the evaluators not the continue with it”.

“This led to loss of time and the teachers had to relocate to another institution to continue with evaluation work. Hence action has been initiated against Mount Carmel College and it will no longer be an evaluation centre in future” Hegde added.

The Commissioner also explained that during evaluation, all days of the schedule are working days and the work is not stopped at any cost.

“Other Christian institutions too were evaluation centres but they did not chase out the evaluators or disrupt the evaluation works citing festival reasons” added Hegde.
