A sum of Rs 1.64 crore has been dispersed as incentive to milk producing co-operatives in the taluk every month, for the period between September and January. The government has announced incentive of Rs 2 per litre for the milk producers, director S Ramesh announced this here on Thursday.

A family of a farmer who died recently, was given a cheque for Rs 10,000 as ex gratia from the Kolar Milk Producers’ Welfare Fund.  Ramesh said that the farmer was supplying milk to the milk union in Hirebidanur village. He gave away the cheque to the beneficiaries.

Barring Kolar, in no other districts such gestures are followed, he said. The district milk producing co-operative society has  several such schemes for the welfare of the farmers.
He claimed that the organisation had given Rs 10,000 each for 34 affected families.

Deputy Manager of the storage unit in the taluk Dr Prasannakumar spoke on the occasion. Nominated director Gangalaxmamma and others were present.
