Women more among successful candidates

But, the girl students at the University of Mysore, have outshone boys in bagging gold medals, certificates and degrees making up for the loss. But, there is something to cheer about for boys too as they are far ahead than women in securing PhDs.

Vice-chancellor, University of Mysore Prof V G Talawar on Friday announced that of the total 17, 757 students receiving various degrees during the convocation, 9,856 are  women accounting for 55.52 per cent, against 7,897 men (44.48 per cent).

In the post-graduation alone, the record is put at 2,994 candidates (1,622 women, 54.17 pc) and graduates- 14, 406 candidates, with 8,136 women only making a total of 56.48 per cent.

Among the total 182 students adjudged for receiving 283 gold medals and 152 cash prizes, it’s women again who have ruled the roost with 121 (66.48 pc) students.

The women’s success story doesn’t end here. They have upped again among the number of candidates who have won five and above gold medals and prizes. Of the total 22 such candidates,19 are women.

However, among successful 353 PhD candidates, 255 are men accounting for 72.37 pc and 98 are women- 27.63 pc.
