Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) President Nallur Prasad on Saturday urged the State and Union governments to chalk out schemes which would check migration of rural population to cities in search of jobs. Need of the hour was to strengthen agriculture sector.

The award has been instituted by the KSP to encourage progressive farmers. Speaking after presenting the Late G S Bommegowda memorial endowment award to Hadya Rameshraju, a noted organic farmer, at a function here organised in Mandya on Saturday, he said crash in prices for agricultural produces and lack of marketing facilities resulted in the exodus of villagers to urban areas.

Youths should be told to stay in villages and take up agriculture as profession. He complimented Rameshraju for marking a mark in the field of organic farming despite hardship.  People’s Education Trust Chairman H D Chowdaiah, former MP G Madegowda, former MLA G B Shivakumar, KSP District President Dr H S Muddegowda, General Secretary M Krishna and others were present.
