'I have been busy in a good way'

Much like his on-screen persona, Rahul is open, broad-minded and enjoys a good conversation. In a tete-e-tete with Metrolife, Rahul described his last 10 years in the film industry as a fun ride.

Having proven his mettle as a talented actor, Rahul is yet to fully explore his talent behind the camera. After his first directorial ‘Everybody Says I’m Fine’, Rahul never held the megaphone again. But after 11 years, Rahul says that it was about time he got down to direction. Not revealing much about the project, Rahul says the movie is in its pre-production stage. But why such a long gap?

“There is no particular reason for me not getting into direction again. All of a sudden, there were a lot of projects and I thought of taking some time out from direction and concentrate on acting. I guess I have been busy, in a good way though,” he says.

Ask him if there has been a change in his style of directing since the last time and he replies, “Most definitely. I feel I have become wiser, more held back and darker.” His choice of movies too has changed. Once known for his roles only in art films, Rahul has expanded and even succeeded as a commercial hero.

Soon, the actor will be seen in Kuch Love Jaise and the much-talked about Onir’s ‘I Am’, a movie that has come under the spotlight for the kiss Rahul shares with an another actor.

“The movie mainly talks about the discrimination people face in every part of the society. The kiss was an integral part of the film and I feel it’s sad that people want to concentrate only on that instead of focusing on the larger picture,” says Rahul, who will be seen as the CEO of a company, who is gay and yet to come out of the closet.
