Indian Red Cross Society asked to open blood bank

Noted medical practitioner Dr Bharathi Rajashekhar on Tuesday suggested district unit of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to set up a blood bank and also Red Cross helpline for the benefit of people.

Addressing a meeting of life members of District unit of Indian Red Cross Society organised in Hassan on Tuesday, she said the people wish for better health facility.The Hassan unit of IRCS  must take a lead in this regard, she added.

As many as 850 persons have obtained life membership in the district. The Indian Red Cross Society can earn a good name, if members works together, she added.  Additional Deputy Commissioner Subramanya lauded the services of IRCS in the field of health services. The management and members of the society should unite and strengthen the institution for the effective implementation of schemes.

Veteran freedom fighter, H M Shivanna wanted a permanent building for the Society to expand its activities in the city. The people-friendly organisations must donate generously towards the permanent building.  The members elected H P Mohan to as president and Anuganalu Krishnamurthy as secretary of the district unit of Indian Red Cross Society. Dr K C Mariyappa, Dr Y S Veerabhadraiah also spoke. District Surgeon Dr Shankar, District Health Officer Dr Bheeshmachar, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Udayaravi were present.
