The judge Narayan V Hegde found Muninarayanamma, Narayanswamy and Muninarayan Gowda guilty of the offense and convicted. They judge ordered them to pay a fine of Rs 10,000, 20,000 and 20,000 respectively.

Narayanswamy, a resident of Bettahalli in Sulibele police limits, gave his daughter Lakshmi in marriage to Muninarayan Gowda on June 9, 2006.

After the wedding Muninarayan Gowda, his sister Muninarayanamma and brother Narayanswamy allegedly started harassing Lakshmi for more dowry.

They allegedly subjected her for continuous mental and physical torture even after she delivered a girl child. They allegedly picked quarrel with her on January 6, 2009 alleging she failed to bring more dowry when she was carrying a five-month-old baby.

They allegedly strangulated her with a rope and hanged the body from a branch of a tree in a land on survey number five. They cooked up a story and created fake records to establish it was a case of suicide.

However, the police registered a case based on the complaint filed by Lakshmi's father Narayanswamy,  took up the investigation and submitted a charge sheet.
