Titled Vivekananda Haselfre Udyog, the programme kicked off on January 12 this year, as a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda.

Mysore is the posit for the mission from where one lakh youths from the State will be trained. Nearly 150 youngsters are undergoing training in two batches at the Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education (RIMSE) here from March 14.

Dr Nadadur Janardhan, a former IAS officer and Chairman of Haselfre Solutions, told Deccan Herald that Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC) has entrusted them with the task. The programme intends to hone the skills of school dropouts who are above 18 years and have no regular means of income.

Most trainees have been selected from slums in Mysore City and from rural parts of the district. The ongoing programme enables trainees to acquire 11 soft skills and will also be imparted value-based education. The uniqueness of the programme is that it will also use video films and computer games to impart training. To help the unskilled youth use a computer, all computers have a voice-over feature in Kannada to guide them. The candidates are groomed for the hospitality industry, where job opportunities are plenty.

RIMSE correspondent Swami Maheshatmananda said the initiative was already bearing results with candidates becoming more disciplined, the foundation for any achievement. A fee of Rs 100 has been collected from each candidate that will be returned soon after the training.

During the training period, the trainees will also be made to work on field for a couple of days, to acclimatise them to their future job. The top 10 trainees will be given special training on the Golden Chariot train.
