A large number of dignitaries including Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, Tourism Minister, Bina Kak, Health Minister A A Khan and the people from various walks of life in Jaipur on Sunday paid their respects to the departed Maharaja.

A pall of gloom descended the city after the news of Bhawani Singh’s death spread. His body has been kept in state at the Chandra Mahal in City Palace, the official residence of the late Maharaja. People in large numbers are pouring in for paying their last respects.
The funeral procession will start at 11 am on Monday from the City Palace and proceed to Jaleb Chowk, Badi Chaupar, Chhoti Chaupar, Gangauri Bazaar and will reach Gaitor Cenotaph for the last rites.

Brigadier Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh was the eldest son of late Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur.  He was born on October 22, 1931, received his early education respectively at SheshNag (Kashmir), Doon School (Dehradun) and Harrow (United Kingdom).

Maharaj Kumar Shri Bhawani Singh was married to the Sirmur Princess, Maharaj Kumari
Padmini Devi, the daughter of Rajendra Prakash Bahadur, a ruler of a large state with its capital town of Nahan. He is blessed with only one child named Princess Diya Kumari. She is married to Narendra Singh.

He has adopted his grandson (his daughter’s son Maharaj Kumar Padmanabh Singh as his heir on 22 November 2002.)

In 1951, Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh was commissioned into the Indian Army in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment as a Second Lieutenant and had served in various positions.  On June 24, 1970, after the death of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II, the President of India recognised him as the successor and ruler of Jaipur.
