Mexican girl suffers brain damage in school beating

The incident occurred last week, when the 17-year-old girl attacked her classmate over "student conflicts" at the end of the school day, the Baja California state Attorney General's Office said in a statement Tuesday.

The assailant and her father were waiting for the victim about two blocks from the high school. The father urged his daughter to fight the other student and did not stop her when she hit the victim's neck, face and head while she was on the ground, police said.

The victim complained about a bad headache in the evening and was taken to an Ensenada clinic, where she arrived unconscious due to bleeding in the brain. The assailant was turned over to child welfare authorities, while her father was arrested for his role in the attack.
