President Kurmanbek Bakiyev won re-election with more than 85 per cent of the vote, trouncing all challengers, as independent experts had predicted he would.
The official landslide victory by Bakiyev, 59, came a month after Kyrgyzstan secured more than $300 million from the US for the continued use of an airbase there crucial to supplying US troops in Afghanistan.
