The rally was led by JD(S) state unit president H D Kumaraswamy and local leader K Shrinivas Gowda. Turncoat legislator Varthur Prakash, the district administration and the State government were at the receiving end of the heap of accusations hurled by them.
Party activists from various taluks gathered at the Travellers’ Bungalow on Friday morning. Although the rally was to begin at 11 am, delay on the part of president Kumaraswamy pushed the start till 3 pm.

After a four-hour wait that taxed party activists as well as police officers and journalists, the gathering started from the Travellers’ Bungalow and traversed M G Road, Boys’ College Circle and Mekke Circle before ending its tour at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

HDK’s war of words
Addressing the public at Mekke Circle, JD(S) state president Kumaraswamy let out a string of strong accusations against the State government and legislator Varthur Prakash.

He foretold that the BJP government would collapse within three months’ time. “The level of corruption in state politics has only gone up at a rapid pace since the BJP government came to power. The government has opted to purchase legislators, thereby dismantling the entire democratic system in the State,” Kumaraswamy said. “It is unfortunate that the State has legislators like Varthur Prakash who prefer to accept money in lieu of support to such a government.”

Accusing Varthur Prakash of having received Rs 30 crore from the government, he demanded a CBI investigation into the matter.

Gowda’s turn
Speaking on the occasion after the state leader, local leader K Shrinivas Gowda continued the verbal assault on the legislator and also criticised the district administration.

He called upon the people to throw out of power officers ‘who fail to respond to the problems of the people’.

“The government offices in the taluks are forced to pay Varthur Rs six lakh every month. The taluks are facing such a situation for the first time in the last 30 years of existence,” he alleged.

Gowda added that Varthur’s claim to have achieved comprehensive development in the region in the last three years is absurd and unbelievable. “There is no better proof than the roads in the district headquarters,” he said with dissatisfaction.

Referring to the water problem in Kolar district, he accused the legislator of having prevented the City Municipal Council from capably handling the situation.

“The people in the region have to struggle to get old age and widow pensions, and several other facilities,” he rued and added that the party had organised the rally to change such situations.

Srinivaspur legislator G K Venkatashiva Reddy, former legislator A Nagaraj too spoke on the occasion.

Party leaders Bhaktavatsalam, S B Munivenkatakappa, Mangamma Muniswamy, K G Gopalakrishna, Murandahalli Gopal and others participated in the rally.
