Cholera: Two in ICU

Timmegowda (60) and Nanjamma (43), residents of Dyavappanahalli in Belur taluk of the district were admitted to the hospital on Friday and their blood samples had tested positive for cholera, the doctors said.

As many as 30 people suffering from diarrhoea were treated at the hospital till Friday night. The number rose to 72 on Saturday. However, the disease is under control, the doctors added.

“It is found that polluted water had mixed with drinking water which led to the outbreak of the disease. Steps have been taken to provide safe drinking water to the residents of Dyavappanahalli,” Dr Hemalatha, surveillance officer of the Health department said.

“More than 20 medical staff along with drugs and two ambulances have been deputed at the village. The residents are being treated at the makeshift medical centre set up at the Anganwadi Kendra in the village,” she added. There is a fall in the number of patients visiting the Kendra and patients admitted to the government hospital in Halebeedu too have returned to their homes, Hemalatha said.

District Health Officer Beeshmachar visited the hospital at Halebeedu and the centre at Dyavappanahalli.
