Posting of non-academic joint directors opposed

Last Updated 09 May 2011, 19:18 IST

The Karnataka Government College Teachers’ Association has alleged that appointing people from non-academic backgrounds to the post of joint directors in the department would spoil the academic environment and bring down education standards.

Two deputy directors from the non-teaching community are now slated to be promoted to the post of joint directors.

President of the association, Dr H Prakash, said joint directors deal with academic responsibilities and non-academicians would not be equipped to handle it. “Such posts should be held by teachers with more than 20 years of experience. If the government goes ahead with this move, then we will launch a strike on May 10,” he warned.

He has also called for cancellation of the meeting of the two deputy directors with the Principal Secretary of Higher Education scheduled for Tuesday. The association has also called for the finalisation of the draft proposals of the Department of Collegiate Education to revise the Cadre and Recruitment Rules which allocated the post of assistant director to non-teaching community entirely.
