This dainty damsel has had a bumpy joyride in Bollywood. She burst into the screen with the movie Ishq Vishq and followed it up with a few multi-starrer hits including Masti and Main Hoon Na but failed to create an impact. And just when she was being written off, Amrita Rao came back with the ultra traditional yet highly successful Vivaah.

The actress is back again in another movie, made under the Rajshri banner, which will see her play a modern girl. In the City recently to promote her film, ‘Love U Mr Kalakaar’, the actress spoke to Metrolife about her character; co-star Tusshar Kapoor and her future plans.

Amrita, who is known for her ‘sweet girl next door’ roles till now, is playing a different character in her new film. In ‘Love U Mr Kalakaar’, she portrays a hardcore professional in the corporate world. “I play a girl called Ritu, who is a management student and works in her father’s business,” she says. Sharing more about the movie she says, “People of every age group would be able to connect with the character because it is very modern and real.”

This is Amrita’s second movie with Rajshri banner and she seems to be enjoying working with the production house quite a lot. “What sets them apart is their sensitivity which is very inspiring. They don’t judge you from your last hit or flop movie,” she says. “The people there respect the actor in you. So this movie was like a homecoming of sorts for me,” she adds.

Mention the name of her co-star Tusshar and Amrita is all praises. “Tusshar is spontaneously funny. I have always seen the comic side of him but what you see on screen is very slapstick and physical. In reality, he has a great sense of humour,” she says.

Amrita was not seen on screen too much in the past year but she informs that it was not a conscious decision. “It has happened very unconsciously. I don’t come from a filmi background or have a godfather in the industry. I am not being irrationally selective but yes, at the end of the day, it’s only your work that separates you from everyone else,” she says.

She also mentions that recession impacted her career in a big way and was a reason for her disappearance last year. “The recession affected the best of us. There were two films that I was supposed to be a part of. One was an opulent historic drama and the other was a Ken Ghosh film. But both never saw the light of the day because of the recession,” she says.

The actress is though looking forward to her new movie and doing more films with the banner. “I have two more commitments with Rajshri which I can not disclose right now,” she says.
