Contaminated water: Many take ill

The incident that has come to light late on Thursday, is said to have caused allegedly due to the recent works taken up by Jamshedpur Utilities and Service Company (Jusco) Limited.
The company had taken up works to relay water pipes.

According to the angry residents, the drinking water pipe may have been damaged letting sewage mix with the same. Most of the affected persons, from first cross to third cross of Siddarthanagar, were treated as outpatients at a private hospital on T Narsipur Road. They complained of diarrhoea.

Mayor Pushpalatha T B Chikkanna told Deccan Herald, as an immediate step the regular water supply is stopped to the particular houses and tankers have been deployed. Water samples has been collected and sent for test at the laboratory.

It’s only after the report, the exact cause behind could be ascertained.

When contacted Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) Executive Engineer Subramanya said that he has asked AEEs of the water works Mahadevappa and Mahadevswamy over the incident.
