Meet on Bedthi valley today

The meeting scheduled to be held at Magodu village in Yellapur taluk is dedicated to the memory of the protests staged by the people of the region against various projects in Bedthi and Aghanashini valleys of Uttara Kannada district between 1980 and 1992.

Mass agitation

Task Force Chairman Ananth Hegde Asishara said that the proposal of the Bedthi valley project, which led to mass agitation in Uttara Kannada, was a milestone in the environmental agitation.

He said the meeting would recall the public agitation and its leaders who opposed the Bedthi project. A discussion about the forest and biodiversity of Bedthi valley would also be held.  Besides, a session would discuss strategies to protection forest cover in the region with the help of the village forest committees and gram panchayats has been scheduled.
