The BJP, after winning three seats, had every reason to rejoice. The BJP leaders advised their opponents to co-operate with the government ‘at least’ now on development issues.

Interacting with the media, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa attributed the victory to party workers. “It is people’s victory. I thank them for the faith they have in our government,”, he said. Yeddyurappa celebrated the victory of the candidates by distributing sweets among his Cabinet colleagues, at Vidhana Soudha.

Minister B Sriramulu, requesting the Opposition to co-operate with the government, sarcastically said at least now the Opposition should realise that its protests against the government has not yielded results. He claimed that despite allegations against the Chief Minister, and regarding illegal mining, the people have reposed their faith in the BJP.

Congress State president G Parameshwara admitted that the results were disappointing. The Opposition exposed the BJP government’s corruption but the people have endorsed the BJP, he said. “We have to introspect.”

Union Minister M Mallikarjun Kharge said in the victory of the BJP candidates, democracy has taken the biggest hit.  he said.
